U.S. History
This course relies on Seton’s new two-volume textbook America: Forge of Freedom. Filled with almost 800 historical maps, paintings, and photos, America: Forge of Freedom takes students from the Age of Discovery, through the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the World Wars, ending with the conclusion of the presidency of George W. Bush in 2008. As with any Seton course, the defining feature of our approach to history is our Catholic perspective. About one-tenth of the text is specifically dedicated to the history of the Catholic Church in America, and of course, the teachings of the Faith permeate all aspects of the course.
The textbook features chapter reviews that are designed to help students prepare easily for each test in the course. The lesson plans provide further enrichment on central historical topics throughout the course.
